Before you light your wood wick candle, be sure that your candle is away from drafts such as ceiling fans, fireplaces, air conditioners, and open windows.  

It is very common for your wood wick to extinguish itself during its first burn (maybe even a couple of times) since the ember needs time to build heat to keep lit.  It’s very helpful if you have a small torch lighter, but a normal lighter works just fine.  Matches unfortunately aren't very helpful when lighting wood wicks.

When lighting your candle, be sure to light the entire wick, not just one side.  This helps create an even burn, with less chance of extinguishing itself.  Keep the flame held to the wick longer than you would a cotton wick candle.

Once your wick has established a hot flame, it’s always recommended to burn your candle until the melted wax reaches the glass or metal tin.  Soy wax has what we refer to as a “memory” and if the candle is put out before the wax reaches the jar, you may experience trouble burning to the edge of the jar during your second burn.  When this happens, the wick will begin to drown in excess wax from the remaining wax on the edge of your candle jar.
